Dark Neighborhood : A Reading and Conversation with Vanessa Onwuemezi

The Center for Writers and Translators at the American University of Paris is delighted to present, in collaboration with the , a conversation with Vanessa Onwuemenzi about听Dark Neighbourhood, her debut collection of short fiction. Published last October, the volume was named a听Guardian听Best Fiction of 2021. 鈥淪he sends English off on a great line of flight,鈥 novelist Tom McCarthy has remarked of Onwuemenzi鈥檚 writing, 鈥渇rom which it returns as poetry.鈥

About the speakers:

Vanessa Onwuemezi听lives in London. Her work has appeared in听Granta,听Prototype,听frieze听补苍诲听Five Dials. Her story 鈥淎t the Heart of Things鈥 won the听White Review听Short Story Prize 2019.

Daniel Medin听is an editor and professor of comparative literature at the American University of Paris.

While the conversation will happen in person (Onwuemezi听and Medin will appear in the Reading Room), the Library will stream the conversation on Zoom for a live viewing experience. Both in-person and online attendees will be able to pose questions.
